PTA Updates - May 1, 2022

Thank you to all of our Budding Scientists and science enthusiasts who attended the Science Expo on Friday! Big thanks to Mia Gaudet for organizing this awesome event and all of the volunteers who helped make it possible! We would not be able to host such wonderful events without your support.

We have a busy week  of fun activities ahead! Be sure to check out today's email from the school outlining this week's Let's Get Active Challenge which will end with our Dragon Dash on Friday 5/6! Please read the other updates below carefully so you don't miss out. 

Events & Updates:

  • Staff Appreciation Week - 5/2 - 5/6: (this week) The Beall PTA has a fun and tasty week planned to celebrate our outstanding teachers & staff. Please consider donating food, supplies and/or your valuable time to this worthy cause. Check out the Sign Up Genius! We encourage students to show their appreciation for the Beall Staff by following the suggested schedule below. See the flyer.
    • Monday 5/2: (no school day) Come to Beall and leave a picture and/or message of appreciation in chalk! Chalk available at the front doors of the school or bring your own! Focus on walkways into the school for max visibility. No art on school walls! Let’s focus on kindness!
    • Tuesday 5/3: Bring a teacher/staff member a letter/note of appreciation.
    • Wednesday 5/4: Bring a teacher/staff member a flower.
    • Thursday 5/5: Bring a teacher/staff member a healthy snack.
    • Friday 5/6: Bring a teacher/staff member a useful supply for their work.
  • May PTA Meeting - Tuesday 5/3: (this week) Our next PTA meeting is this Tuesday 5/3 at 6:30pm. Please join us at this link! Meeting ID: 665 233 2642, Passcode: zx5hA0. We will be approving the April meeting minutes and approving our Bylaws. We will also be voting in the PTA Board for next school year. View the slate of officers. IMPORTANT: We are still searching for a VP of Communications. If you are interested in learning more about this critical role, let us know.
  • Bike to School Day - Wednesday 5/4: (this week) Join us in celebrating Bike to School Day THIS Wednesday 5/4. If you have any questions or would like to join a bike train, please email the organizer, Shannon Brescher Shea.
  • Dragon Dash - Friday 5/6 from 2:00 - 2:50pm: (this week) The Dragon Dash Fun Fun will be held at Beall THIS Friday, 5/6, from 2:00 -2:50pm (rain date: May 13th).  Parent spectators welcome! To volunteer during the fun run, please go here. Contact Davida Farrar with questions.
    • The Fun Run Spring Fundraiser is in full swing! We have raised $4,160 so far! Help us reach our goals by registering, and share your child's fundraising site with family and friends. *Note* - the fundraising portion isn't tied to how far or fast your child runs - donated amounts are fixed and any amount is welcome!
  • Beall Online Spiritwear Store: (free shipping now) Now open with free shipping through 5/9! The store will be open continuously for the rest of this school year and into the next. Check out all the great items and logos! View the flyer.

MCCPTA Updates:

  • RM Cluster Coordinator Testifies on MCPS’s Operating Budget for FY23: MCCPTA’s Richard Montgomery HS Cluster Coordinator Amy Ackerberg-Hastings asked the County Council to fund MCPS’s fiscal year 2023 operating budget request at least at the level recommended by the County Executive. Should the Council decide to exceed the request, Ackerberg-Hastings asked the Council to apply additional funds toward maintaining school year 2021-2022 staffing allocations in school year 2022-2023. Ackerberg-Hastings also asked the Council to direct MCPS to provide greater detail and transparency about the impact of MCPS’s budget proposal on individual schools. The County Council is expected to approve a budget for MCPS by June 10.
  • Beall ES COVID-19 Reported Cases Drop: Beall had one COVID-19 case reported over the last 10 days, as of April 30, according to MCPS’s COVID-19 School Dashboard. One week earlier, Beall had 5 COVID-19 cases reported over the preceding 10 days.
  • MCCPTA Elects Officers for 2022-2023: MCCPTA elected its officers for 2022-2023: Debby Orsak as president, Audra Dove as VP of Education, Charisse Scott as VP of Programs, Laura Mitchell as VP of Advocacy, Oriole Saah as Treasurer, Rodney Peele as Board Secretary, and Jenn Sawin as Delegates’ Assembly Secretary.
  • Complete Statewide Strategic Planning Survey: Reminder that parents have the opportunity to complete the Maryland State Department of Education’s strategic planning survey, to inform MSDE’s multi-year strategic plan. MCCPTA’s Gifted Education Committee urges parents to complete the survey and to voice your support for gifted education in your responses. Complete the surveyReview fact sheet by Md.   • MCPS to Hold Community Conversations: Reminder that MCPS Superintendent Monifa McKnight is holding a final community conversation, titled “All Together Now: Putting Our Students First,” to discuss MCPS’s strengths, priorities, and opportunities for how the system can better serve its students, on Sat., May 7, 11:00 a.m., at Paint Branch HS. RSVPs are encouraged. RSVP for the event.
  • Montgomery County Holds Vaccination Clinics: The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services continues to hold vaccine clinics around the County. Read more. Schedule a vaccine appointment.
