Events and Updates:

  • After School Activities: (Register this week) Registration for Flex spring after school activities is OPEN NOW through Tuesday 4/5 at 8pm.   • Virtual Talent Show Viewing 2 - Tuesday 3/29 at 7pm: (this week) Thank you to everyone who joined us this past week for our incredible Virtual Talent Show! We are having a 2nd Viewing on Tuesday 3/29 at 7pm. Join us on Zoom. Meeting ID: 882 0050 0862 Passcode: 1JwxVN.
  • Second Vaccine Clinic at Beall - Thursday, 3/31 from 3:30-6:30pm: (this week) First dose, second dose, booster, they'll have them! You can just stop by or schedule an appointment: children 5-11 years old (first or second dose); anyone 12 years or older (first dose, second dose, or booster). 
  • Science Expo: ONE WEEK remaining to register for the 2022 Science Expo! Please register your Budding Scientists to share their science project with Visiting Scientists. Projects will not be judged and all Budding Scientists will receive a Certificate of Participation and a prize! We are looking for Beall family volunteers and Visiting Scientists.   • Beall PTA Nominating Committee: We are looking for volunteers to serve on our PTA Board for the 2022-23 school year; in particular Secretary, VP of Communications, and VP of Programs & Planning. You can view a summary of positions here. If you'd like to find out more or are interested in joining the board email [email protected].  The PTA works hard every year to support the school and community by organizing school events (Back to School Picnic, Movie Night, Science Expo), fundraising for special projects (hand dryers, legacy projects, playground dome), and providing funding for cultural assemblies, field trips, and teacher support.

MCCPTA Updates:

  • Last Call! Complete the anti-racist audit survey by this Thurs., March 31. Read more.
  • MCCPTA Approves Statement on Abuse Charges Against MCPS Teacher, Accepts Beall PTA Amendments: MCCPTA delegates approved, by a vote of 61-0, a press statement on recent criminal charges filed against a Whitman HS teacher and coach alleging abuse of students. Beall’s two delegates, Jonathan Thessin and Jack Thirolf, voted in favor of issuing the statement. MCCPTA accepted three amendments offered by Beall PTA members to emphasize better prevention and to recognize the role that non-MCPS entities can play in identifying incidents of abuse and bringing them to light. We will share the final statement with Beall PTA members once it is issued.
  • MCPS Urges Continued Vigilance Against COVID-19 Pandemic: On April 18—one day before students return from spring break—MCPS asks families to test all MCPS students using MCPS-provided rapid-take-home test kids and report positive cases via MCPS’s online form. If the test is positive, MCPS directs students to stay home and follow quarantine and isolation guidelines. Beall ES had 1 COVID-19 case reported over the last 10 days, as of March 26, according to MCPS’s COVID-19 School Dashboard.
  • Reminder: MCCPTA Achievement Awards Due Apr. 1: MCCPTA is seeking nominations for PTA President of the Year, Principal of the Year, Teacher of the Year, Special Education professional of the year, and other awards. Submit a nomination for an Achievement Award. Submit a nomination for a Special Education Award. For more information about Achievement Awards, contact MCCPTA’s Daria Daniel.   • Reminder: Board of Education Seeks Feedback by Apr. 7 on Naming School Facilities Policy: Read more and submit a comment.
  • BOE Delays Construction of Crown High School: The Montgomery County Board of Education has delayed construction of Crown High Schoolwhose student population could draw from Richard Montgomeryfor another year. The school’s opening is now planned for 2027.
  • In February 2022, MCCPTA's Gifted Education Committee (GEC) members participated in a Fourth Friday Family Forum on "Unmasking the Myths Behind Gifted and Talented Programs," organized by the MCCPTA Vice President of Programs Charisse Scott. Charisse led an engaging discussion with MCPS principals and an outside expert/MCPS parent.  This presentation has now been recorded and is available in multiple languages.  The GEC invites you to view the Youtube recordings and the slidedeck.

Community Updates & Resources:

  • WETA PBS KIDS Writers Contest: Open to grades K - 4. Students should submit an original story, poem or piece of non-fiction that starts with “I want to see a world where...” to enter the contest. There are 3 winners per grade level & the deadline is Thursday, 4/28. Learn more, including prize info here.
