MCCPTA Updates:

  • MCPS Urges Continued Vigilance Against COVID-19 Pandemic: On April 18—one day before students return from spring break—MCPS asks families to test all MCPS students using MCPS-provided rapid-take-home test kids and report positive cases via MCPS’s online form. If the test is positive, MCPS directs students to stay home and follow quarantine and isolation guidelines. Beall ES had 4 COVID-19 cases reported over the last 10 days, as of April 2, according to MCPS’s COVID-19 School Dashboard. One week earlier, Beall ES had 1 COVID-19 case reported over the preceding 10 days.
  • Reminder: Board of Education Seeks Feedback by Apr. 7 on Naming School Facilities Policy: Read more and submit a comment.
  • MCPS to Hold Community Conversations: MCPS Superintendent Monifa McKnight will hold three community conversations, titled “All Together Now: Putting Our Students First,” to discuss MCPS’s strengths, priorities, and opportunities for how the system can better serve its students. The events will be held on Wed., Apr. 20, 7:00 p.m., at Gaithersburg HS; Wed., Apr. 27, 7:30 p.m., at Walter Johnson HS; and Sat., May 7, 11:00 a.m., at Paint Branch High School. RSVPs are encouraged. RSVP for the event.
  • MCCPTA Seeks Feedback on Draft Resolution on Year-Round Education: MCCPTA intends to vote at its May 24 meeting on whether to adopt a resolution in support of year-round education (YRE), whereby students are present for the same number of instructional days (180 per year), but the current summer break is replaced with shorter (i.e., four-week) mini-vacations throughout the year. The draft resolution asks that MCPS extend YRE to "every school within the district within a decade," without specifying that MCPS follow a specific model of YRE. The resolution will be discussed at Beall PTA’s April and May PTA meetings. If you have feedback, please bring it to those meetings or contact Jonathan Thessin or Jack ThirolfRead the draft MCCPTA resolution.
