PTA Updates - April 18, 2022

Don’t forget to test your students tonight! MCPS asks families to test all MCPS students using MCPS-provided COVID-19 rapid-take-home test kids and report positive cases. Please report positive cases via MCPS’s online form. If the test is positive, MCPS directs students to stay home and follow quarantine and isolation guidelines.

Events and Updates:

  • Last Call for Yearbooks: (this week) Submit photos & place your order now before it's too late! 
    • Photos Needed: Please submit pictures of your Dragons for the 2021-22 yearbook here by 4/22!
    • Order Yearbook(s):  Place your order here by 4/24! Yearbook ID: 14589222.
  • Spring Fundraiser & Dragon Dash: We are excited to announce the return of our Spring Fun Run – the Dragon Dash, a student favorite! The accompanying Spring Fundraiser kicks off TOMORROW Tuesday, 4/19! We encourage you to register now (School Identifier: 62227804287ef).The Dash will be Friday, 5/6 (rain date: 5/13) during the school day. All students get to participate! For questions, or to volunteer at the Dash, email Davida Farrar, Event Chair.
  • Beall Online Spiritwear Store: Now open! You can purchase products now or wait for the FREE SHIPPING period between 4/25 and 5/9. The store will be open continuously  for the rest of this school year and next school year. Check out all the great items and logos! Please be on the lookout for a flyer coming home this week.
  • April Dine Out - Chick-Fil-A: Join us next Tuesday 4/26, from 3-7pm at the Chick-Fil-A in Research Row. Dine in and carryout only. Mention Beall and 15% of your purchase will go to the PTA. See the flyer.
  • Science Expo - Friday 4/29 in the Beall Gym - 6:30-8pm: Our Budding Scientists will share their science project with Visiting Scientists. All Budding Scientists will receive a Certificate of Participation and a prize! We are looking for Beall family volunteers and Visiting Scientists.   • May PTA Meeting - Tuesday 5/3: Our next PTA meeting is Tuesday 5/3 at 6:30pm. Please join us at this link! Meeting ID: 665 233 2642, Passcode: zx5hA0. We will be approving the April meeting minutes and approving our Bylaws.
  • Bike to School Day - Tuesday 5/4: We have a volunteer hoping to organize Beall participation. She needs help working with the city and organizing possible meeting points. Please email Shannon if you are interested in helping!

MCPS and MCCPTA Updates:

  • Beall ES COVID-19 Reported Cases Fall: Beall had four COVID-19 cases reported over the last 10 days, as of April 16, according to MCPS’s COVID-19 School Dashboard. One week earlier, Beall had 18 COVID-19 cases reported over the preceding 10 days.
  • MCCPTA Urges MCPS to Publish Data on Gifted Students, Asks Parents to Contact BOE: MCCPTA’s Gifted Education Committee urged MCPS to publish data and information about the population of gifted students in MCPS and available programs, including curriculum information, in two letters sent Apr. 4 and Apr. 8. The letters continue the GEC’s long-standing advocacy for information on how many gifted students are identified in each school and whether schools have the resources they need to meet these students’ needs. The GEC asks parents to contact the Board of Education in support of the data requests and to urge the BOE to provide equitable opportunities for quality enriched learning and accelerated programming to all eligible students. Contact the BOE. For more information, contact Beall ES Gifted Education Committee representative Rebecca Thessin
  • MCPS to Hold Community Conversations: Reminder that MCPS Superintendent Monifa McKnight will hold three community conversations, titled “All Together Now: Putting Our Students First,” to discuss MCPS’s strengths, priorities, and opportunities for how the system can better serve its students. The events will be held on Wed., Apr. 20, 7:00 p.m., at Gaithersburg HS; Wed., Apr. 27, 7:30 p.m., at Walter Johnson HS; and Sat., May 7, 11:00 a.m., at Paint Branch HS. RSVPs are encouraged. RSVP for the event.
  • Montgomery County Holds Vaccination Clinics: The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services continues to hold vaccine clinics around the County. Read more. Schedule a vaccine appointment.

  • RM Girls Lacrosse Cluster Night - Friday 4/22: The Richard Montgomery Girls Varsity and JV lacrosse teams will be hosting a Lacrosse Cluster Night on 4/22. Come out at 5:30pm for a fun evening! Free admission for students with a paying adult. See the flyer here.
  • Rockville Science Day - Sunday 4/24 at Montgomery College: Check out the 31st Rockville Science Day on Sunday 4/24 from noon - 5pm at Montgomery College. The event is free - learn more here.
