PTA Meeting and Parenting Workshop

Wednesday, January 07, 2015 at 06:00 PM
Beall Elementary, Media Center in Rockville, MD

PTA Meeting from 6:00 - 6:30 pm followed by Parenting Workshop "Talk to Me First: Conversations about Sexuality" by Deborah Roffman (Time Magazine's May 2014 "Sixteen Parenting Expert Worth Listening To") from 6:30 - 8:00 pm.

Free childcare provided by Global Children's Center. We'll provide pizza. You must RSVP with the number of children.

Beall PTA welcomes back speaker Deborah Roffman who was extremely well received in the 2011 & 2012 workshops on the same topic of age appropriate communication on sexuality! You will sure laugh and realize that it’s easier than you think.

Nationally acclaimed educator and author of Sex and Sensibility and Talk to Me First, Ms. Roffman distills her more than 30 years of experience teaching kids—and their parents—into this incredibly helpful workshop, helping you to be your kids’ number one source for information and guidance on human sexuality. Ms. Roffman will engage you from developmental stages to strategies for handling embarrassing or difficult conversations, offering the best ways to make sure you both keep talking (and listening).

Ms. Roffman’s work on childhood and teen sexuality has been featured in numerous publications, including the Washington Post and USA Today. A recipient of the Mary Lee Tatum Apple Award from Planned Parenthood Federation of America, she has also been recognized by the National Federation of Republican Women

More info on Ms. Roffman at www.sexandsensibility.net

This event is free for PTA members and it is $10 per non-PTA member at the door.

Science Expo

Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at 07:00 PM
Beall Elementary School in Rockville, MD

Have you heard about the Beall PTA Science Expo? Scheduled for January 27, 2015 (snow date Feb 3), it's going to be an AWESOME EXPLOSION of SCIENCE! We turn the Beall gym over to our budding Beall scientists for an evening of science fun: each student who chooses to do a project gets an assigned table space with plenty of room for a display board describing some bit of SCIENCE that kid has done at home, whether an experiment or a fascinating science phenomenon. You can expect crystals, volcanoes, projectiles, animals, chemistry, space and lots of other super cool stuff. Any Beall student who wants to participate can present a project of their choice at the Expo, and everyone is invited to come see the projects! Look for more info coming home in backpack mail and on the PTA listserv 12/15. Students can use our web form to sign up to present a project, and parents can volunteer here to help make the Expo happen. Documents, handouts, etc, related to the Expo are archived here.

Register here. Click here for Spanish.  Click here for Chinese.
