Readathon & Fundraising

The PTA is excited to introduce an optional fundraising component to the Readathon! The fundraising component is designed to be easy and fun, so we are hoping that everyone will participate! Here is how it works — Your children will secure pledges from friends and family during Readathon. Each sponsor will pledge to pay for each minute your children read or are read to! The sponsor can choose any amount they wish or choose to pay a flat fee for the total minutes read. All donations are 100% tax-deductible. After obtaining pledges your children will set a “minimum goal” for themselves and begin reading. Minutes are counted, instead of books, in order to make this fair for readers at every level.

Use your Sponsorship Form to keep track of your sponsors and how much they have pledged to donate. At the end of Readathon, tally up their minutes, collect their pledge money from the sponsors and bring collected money to school by Tuesday, May 28th. Pledges can also be made on our website. Prizes will be awarded to the top three fundraisers.

Ready, Set... READ! The Beall PTA DRAGON READATHON returns for three weeks, Friday, May 3 - Friday, May 24!

Each week, students track time spent reading outside of school on their reading log, have a parent initial each log entry, and return the log to school on Friday. Students can read independently or have a friend or family member read to them. Please note that audiobooks do not count toward Readathon totals.

As if reading weren't reward enough in itself, check out these great perks:

  • Weekly PRIZES will be awarded to the student in each grade who reads for the most minutes.

  • The classroom in each grade that reads the most will win a PIZZA PARTY at the end of Readathon!  

  • For every 60 minutes of reading, students will earn one raffle entry for the Readathon Grand Prize, a Kindle eREADER! 

Students and their parents are invited to join us for the PTA's Family Reading & Food Truck Night at Beall on Thursday, May 9th for dinner and to meet a fabulous guest author. Each student who attends can log one EXTRA hour of Readathon time.

Additional prizes will be awarded to the top three students who raise the most money!
