End of Year Picnic

Let's close out the school year in a GREAT way... with a picnic!  The PTA sponsored end of year picnic will be held on the rear yard/lawn area behind the school from 6:30-8:30pm.  Food vendors (think Carmen's Ice, Potomac Pizza, Holy Crepes and Rocklands BBQ) will be on site and DJ Angel will be there to get you up and dancing! We will also have TWO moon bounces!!  Moon bounce permission slips/waiver forms will be available on site and may also be accessed here and completed in advance. So bring your blankets and get ready to hang out with your fellow dragons!

Right Now:

Readathon logs are due Friday, May 25th

Readathon officially ends, and Week 3 Readathon logs are due on Friday.  To accommodate children who are absent, logs will be accepted no later than Tuesday, May 29th.  No reading logs will be accepted after that date.  Please make sure that you review and initial all of the entries on your child's Week 3 log before returning it to school.  

Our students have read over 152,000 minutes in just our first two weeks of Readathon!  

Next week, we will award prizes for the students in each grade who have logged the most reading minutes.  Also, students will earn one entry into our Readathon Grand Prize raffle for every 200 minutes noted on their Readathon logs.  Additionally, the class in each grade that logs the most Readathon minutes will win a pizza party.  

There are some very close races in some grades, and we want to make sure that we count every minute that our students spend reading outside of school.  So remember to send in those Readathon logs!

PTA Board for 2018-2019 schoolyear

At the PTA general meeting on May 1st, you voted for the PTA Board for next year!  The wonderful volunteers who have stepped up for these roles are:

  • President – Liza Ford
  • VP of Programs & Planning - Jonathan Schwalbe
  • VP of Communications - Roseline Tekeu
  • Treasurer - Katherine McCaffrey
  • Secretary -  Wendy Whitaker

Their terms begin July 1st.

At the same time, we thank the current Board for their service this year, ending June 30th: President Joshua Schnell; VP of Programs Jonathan Schwalbe (continuing next year); VP of Communications Monica Berger; Treasurer Gotthard Saghi-Szabo; and Secretary Liza Ford (serving as President next year). 

Board of Education cluster meeting

You are invited to attend a meeting with the Board of Education on May 17, 2018 from 7:30 p.m. – 9 p.m. The members of the Board are dedicating a full meeting to our Richard Montgomery Cluster of schools. Come join us.

  • Meet the members of the Board and others in your community.
  • Learn more about issues and opportunities in our cluster of schools.
  • Share feedback with members of the Board and ask questions.

What you can do today?

Please Note:

  • All are welcome! Attendance is free.
  • Childcare will be provided (Children must be toilet-trained.) You are also welcome to have your child join the session.
  • Registration in NOT required, but we would appreciate it. You may come and submit questions the day of the meeting without registering. However, registering in advance will help us coordinate and know how many children need childcare, topics of interest, questions to ask the Board, and what language interpreters are needed (Spanish, Sign Language, Chinese, etc).

Beall Read-a-thon is here!

Ready, Set... READ!   The Beall PTA DRAGON READATHON returns for three weeks, Friday, May 4 - Friday, May 25!  

Each week, students track time spent reading outside of school on their reading log, have a parent initial each log entry, and return the log to school on Friday. Students can read independently or have a friend or family member read to them. Please note that audiobooks do not count toward Readathon totals. Please check your child's backpack mail for the Week 1 Readathon Log.

If you misplace the hard copy of your child's Week 1 Readathon Log, you can click here to print a replacement.

As if reading weren't reward enough in itself, check out these great perks:

  • Weekly PRIZES will be awarded to the student in each grade who reads for the most minutes. The classroom in each grade that reads the most will win a PIZZA PARTY at the end of Readathon!  
  • For every 200 minutes of reading, students will earn one raffle entry for the Readathon Grand Prize, a Kindle eREADER!

Students and their parents are invited to join us for Family Reading & Food Truck Night at Beall on Thursday, May 10th for dinner and to meet a fabulous guest author. The trucks will be onsite from 5-8 pm, and the Rock & Read author event will be 7-8 pm.  Each student who attends can log one EXTRA hour of Readathon time!
